Some of your Questions:

Q. How can I test the accuracy of the CrowdSize calculations?

Type in the address of your local high school and zoom and pan until the football field fills the screen. Touch the Lock button and select the area calculation option. American football fields are 160' wide by 360' from back of end zone to back of end zone. Touch the screen to select the corners of the field and, depending on how accurately you selected your points, after you touch Done you will see a result very close to 57,600 sf.

Q. Crowds don't have defined edges and they vary in density, is this app really worth it?

CrowdSize is a convenient estimating tool. If you want to produce more accurate results, outline and calculate the more dense center of the crowd, the less dense perimeter of the crowd and add the results.

Q. What does the arrow at the top of the screen mean?

Touching the arrow will zoom into the users location.

Q. What do the different colors for perimeter line work mean?

The application uses different density factors to calculate crowd sizes. The white line work indication 0 persons/sf and is used for simple area estimate. The yellow line work uses a density factor of 1 person/36sf (garden party), cyan line work uses a density factor of 1 person/16sf (city sidewalk) and magenta line work uses a density factor of 1 person/4sf (shoulder to shoulder).

Q. Why don't I see my event in the aerial view of the location I select?

The satellite images that you see on your screen are not "real time". They are updated periodically.

Q. How do I set the application to use metric units?

Touch the “Settings” button after the application zooms into the location you select. On the settings screen you can turn metric units on or off.

Q. What if I want to redraw my perimeter and see another result?

Shake the device after you see the result. This will clear the screen and give you an opportunity to select a new area and density factor.

Q. What if I have big fingers and I can't see where I'm touching the screen?

Use a stylus. It works like a pencil and allows you to be more accurate when placing points on the screen. I like the stylus produced by POGO.

Q. Does CrowdSize guarantee it’s calculations?

This application is for estimating purposes only, should not be used for exact quantities and is provided “as is” without any expressed or implied warranty.
